Blah Blah Star

The Sound Lounge is pleased to announce only the third gig in this configuration by Blah Blah Star, a side project for Tom, Mark and Al, who bring a world of gigging and recording experience to the trio.

The three musicians can more often be found these days playing in a successful covers band, but have history going back to the early 1990s, when Mark and Al were both members of World of Leather. The indie-alternative rock group debuted with a self-titled single in 1993 and their two albums, ‘St. Mark’s Place’ (1994) and the following year’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstore’ are still fondly remembered today.

But the desire to create a new sound, writing short, punchy, well-crafted indie-pop, led them to form Blah Blah Star and record the ‘Star 1’ album, released three years ago. Hitting prolific form, they followed it with ‘Star Tu’ in 2024, with more to come. Their songs explore love, illness, politics, the climate and our fractured relationship with technology and its insidious power. Like many musicians, they do all this while juggling full-time jobs and raising families. 

Mark Walker will be familiar to anyone who has seen any of the fine performances by progressive trailblazers Caravan over the past 15 years, including in their acoustic trio line-up at the Sound Lounge in both 2025 and 2026. Al has lived and recorded in the States, toured with John Martyn and was on TV as part of both Kenny Everett and Jack Dee’s house bands. Tom has been singing for the last 30 years, once in front of 85,000 people at Twickenham Stadium!
